Help us Surprise all 173 Kids at Frierson Elementary 
with Bikes, Locks, Helmets, and Bike Pumps!

 

We are so honored to partner with Beyond Our Gates Foundation of Kiawah and Seabrook to bring JOY to all of the kids at
Frierson Elementary this November!

Before we give bikes, we have to get them ready! Help us build all 173 bikes, load them into the semi trucks, then unload them at the schools and surprise the kids!

 

GENERAL INFO TO KNOW:

  • Must sign up in advance for a time slot to attend (may sign up for more than 1)

  • If you cannot make the time slot you signed up for, PLEASE delete your sign-up in advance since we have only a limited number of people per time slot and we would hate to have way fewer people than we needed because of no-shows

  • Anyone under 18yrs of age must be accompanied by an adult

  • Please note that the majority of the bike building takes place the first day and a little bit into the morning of the 2nd day, the last time slots are only quailty check and loading the bikes into the trucks. Quality check and loading the bikes is a great activity for kids to help with!
     

BIKE BUILD/BIKE LOAD INFO:

  • No need to know how to build a bike in advance, it's much easier than you think and we will show you! 

  • If you don't want to build a bike, we have MANY other jobs you can do


BIKE REVEAL INFO:

How the day will work:

  • Please wear a GREEN SHIRT to the bike reveal so all volunteers look cohesive
  • Volunteers will arrive at 1pm to help unload all bikes, locks, helmets, and bike pumps off of the semi trucks and set up the bikes under the big tarps for the surprise bike reveal which will take place at 2pm
  • All of the kids in the whole school will come outside and all of the volunteers will pull the tarps off of the bikes, surprising the kids!
  • Going Places and some volunteers will remain at the school until the end of the day as parents come and check-out their child’s bike
  • At the end of the day, we will move any remaining bikes not picked up inside of the school for 2 weeks so any parents who were unable to pick up their child's bike still have a chance

Please note, by registering to volunteer with Going Places, you are agreeing to the understanding that there are certain dangers, hazards, and risks inherent in volunteering in the activities to be engaged in during the bike build and bike reveal which can cause personal injury, death and property damage. By registering to volunteer, you are agreeing that you further understand that Going Places, Going Places' Board of Directors, CCSD, Charleston Progressive Academy, and the location of the bike build cannot and does not assume responsibility for any such personal injury, death or property damage. You are participating as a volunteer on a voluntary basis and have not been induced to do so by Going Places or any other person. 

By registering to volunteer with Going Places, you are agreeing to assume all the risks surrounding your participation in the bike build and/or bike reveal and in the activities you undertake in connection therewith; and you release and forever discharge the Going Places, CCSD, and Charleston Progressive Academy, and the location of the bike build, their trustees, officers, agents, employees, from any and all liability for any injury, damage, loss, cost or expense (including, without limitation, reasonable attorney’s fees) of any nature that you may at any time have or incur, arising out of or in any manner related to any loss, damage, or injury, including but not limited to suffering and death, that may be sustained to you or by any property belonging to you while volunteering with Going Places.

BIKE BUILD- (Nov 20th and 21st) 6900 Weber blvd Ladson SC 29456 ****(We will be in the back of the building (exact bay doors TBD- please drive and park in the BACK OF THE BUILDING and look for my car- a silver 4Runner and it will be parked in front of the open door which is where we will be. Just come in there)?Call me if you can't find us 224-715-5156 BIKE REVEAL- (Nov 22nd) Frierson Elementary 6133 Maybank Hwy Wadmalaw Island, SC 29487 ****(We will be in the grass next to the playground. The entrance you will drive into will be the first entrance past the school sign, please park on the grass between the small red barn-looking shed and the basketball court.)

Volunteer Opportunities

Nov '24 Frierson Elem Bike Build, Day 2, Time Slot 1
We have tools but if you have your own tool kit and would like to bring them, these are the tools we will be using: ~15mm wrench ~14mm wrench ~13mm wrench ~6 mm Allen wrench ~Philips screw driver ~Box cutter ~Work gloves (very helpful) Please note that the majority of the bike building takes place the first day and a little bit into the morning of the 2nd day, the last time slots are only quality check and loading the bikes into the trucks. Nov '24 Frierson Elem Bike Build, Day 2, Time Slot 3- quality check/ loading bikes
We will be quality checking the bikes and loading them into the trucks. Please be on time because this time slot usually ends an hour or so early but I want to have the extra time scheduled in case we end up needing it. Nov 22nd FRIERSON ELEM BIKE REVEAL- Set up bikes and be part of reveal
Frierson Elementary Bike Reveal- Come be part of the big day! (If you cannot make the time you registered for, PLEASE use the link in your confirmation email to cancel your registration so someone else and can sign up for that time slot, there are limited slots avail for each sign up time) PLEASE WEAR A GREEN SHIRT TO THE BIKE REVEAL SO ALL VOLUNTEERS LOOKS COHESIVE How the day will work: 1. Volunteers will arrive at 1pm to help unload all 173 bikes, locks, helmets, and bike pumps off of the semi trucks and set up the bikes under the big tarps for the 2pm surprise bike reveal 2. All of the kids in the school will come outside and at 2pm, all of the volunteers will pull the tarps off of the bikes, surprising the kids! 3. Going Places and some volunteers will remain at the school until 6pm as parents come and check-out their child’s bike (separate sign up) 5.
